Q:
Does HookSafe™ syringe resemble traditional syringe?
A:

Biotop’s HookSafe™ syringe does not look any different from the traditional syringe thus lessen the barrier for health care workers to adopt the new device while lower anxiety and uneasiness experienced by the patient.

Q:
Is there a lot of training and learning required to properly use Biotop’s HookSafe™ syringe?
A:

As Biotop’s HookSafe™ syringe is very similar to traditional regular syringes with respect to usage and practice procedure, the training required to adopt HookSafe™ syringe is minimal. It only consumes a very short period for health care workers to acquire the mastery of it.

Q:
How do I use Biotop HookSafe™ safety syringe?
A:

1. Draw up the drug to be given in the usual manner.

2. Using a standard one-handed technique, give the injection in line with your current clinical practice.

3. Remember to fully depress the plunger when you are giving the injection thus capturing the safety needle.

4. Retract the needle from the patient back into the barrel.

5. Withdraw the plunger up to the “stop” at the top of the barrel.

6. Break the plunger off, capturing the needle and ensuring that the syringe can not be reused.

7. Dispose of the safety syringe into a sharps container.

Q:
When you push the needle through the rubber septum of the drug vial will the needle not become loose?
A:
  • As with all clinical practices some care has to be taken.
  • Biotop safety need is welded in place thus ensuring that it will not come loose prior to giving the injection.
  • Q:
How does the retraction mechanism work?
    A:

    1. The special needle used to deliver the injection is held in the needle hub.

    2. The special hook on the tip of the plunger is specially designed to engage the needle hub.

    3. The final movement of the plunger, at the end of drug delivery, enables the hook to “grab” the needle.

    4. Retraction of the plunger withdraws the needle safely back into the barrel.

    5. After retraction the needle falls to the side within the barrel, preventing re-deployment.

    6. Once the needle is fully inside the barrel, the plunger is broken off, preventing re-use of the syringe.

    Q:
How many extra steps are required to activate the HookSafe™ safety syringe retraction mechanism?
A: One. With the needle hooked and captured simply retract the plunger to withdraw the needle safely into the barrel.

    Q:
I like to check the movement of the plunger on first opening the syringe pack. Can I still do this with HookSafe™ syringes without activating the retraction mechanism?
    A:
    • Yes if you wish to do so.
    • By moving the plunger back and forward gently this will allow you to check the movement without accidentally activating the mechanism.
    • Remember not to depress the plunger fully.

    Q:
How do I use HookSafe™ safety syringes?
