1. Draw liquid in accordance with established protocol. DO NOT push plunger to the end of barrel while drawing fluid or aspirating air to avoid inadvertent engagement of the plunger with the needle hub. |
2. Administer medication in accordance with established protocols. |
3. Push plunger thoroughly to the end to complete injection. Depressing the plunger to the end will allow the hook at the front end of plunger to engage with the needle hub which will automatically activate the protective mechanism. |
4. Withdraw needle from patient then retract the plunger back fully to retract the needle into the barrel. |
5. Snap off syringe plunger at the breakpoint. DO NOT push the plunger or remaining plunger back into the barrel. This may cause the tilted needle to protrude from the barrel. |
6. Discard after single use in an approved sharps container in accordance with applicable regulations and institutional policy. Follow the guidelines of Center for Disease Control and Prevent, O.S.H.A., or other local equivalent for proper disposal. |
